Poem 4

My fourth poem is called, "Phenomenal Woman", by Maya Angelou. It is about a woman. There is something about this women, something that makes everyone attracted to her. She is a phenomenal woman. Everything about her is phenomenal; The way she carries herself, her smile that lights up a room, her glow.

Poem 3

My third poem, also by Langston Hughes was about the experience of an African American surviving in the south at the peak of slavery. "Negro Mother" talks about the times she had to go through as she grew up in Southern America. It also expresses the feelings of this lady and how she handled situations she was put in at the time.

Poem 2

My second poem is called "I,Too,Sing America", by Langston Hughes. In this poem he is talking about how although African Americans have a different color skin, they are still Americans. Although they are treated unfairly, they are still Americans. This poem is from an African Americans point of view. It really shows how they wanted to be treated how everyone else was treated.

Poem 1

My first poem was called "Merry go round". This poem talks about the Jim Crow laws and how people of different races were treated differently in the south. Hughes is using the merry go-round as to connect people to how the African Americans felt every time they had to get on a bus, or train.
